Gabriela Hearst debuts her inaugural West Coast store

Drawing inspiration from Gabriela Hearst's upbringing on her family ranch in Uruguay, the store beautifully embodies a utilitarian perspective, highlighting the use of natural materials and a commitment to exceptional quality. The soaring vaults within the store pay homage to the distinctive architectural style of Los Angeles, reminiscent of the iconic works of Paul R. Williams. Williams, renowned for his contributions to the city's landscape, including the design of the Beverly Wilshire and his involvement in conceptualizing the Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport.

In a departure from conventional pre-fabrication methods, the brand embraces its ethos of craftsmanship by opting for traditional materials and manual techniques to construct the vaulted ceiling that gracefully encloses the space. This meticulous approach includes the labor-intensive application of Roman Clay, an eco-friendly plaster, resulting in a truly artisanal finish.

In a collaborative effort, Gabriela Hearst joined forces with renowned architect Norman Foster and his team at Foster + Partners to design the store, marking their second partnership following the creation of the London flagship. Additionally, the brand enlisted the talents of designer-makers Benji Gavron and Antoine Dumas from Gavron Dumas Studio to craft a bespoke collection of furniture, including wall-hung shelving, seating, and freestanding pieces, adding a touch of unique elegance to the space.

Meanwhile, Syntun, a prominent data provider, projected that cumulative gross merchandising volume (GMV) sales on major e-commerce platforms increased by 2.08% to 1.14 trillion yuan ($156.40 billion), compared to a growth rate of 2.9% in the previous year.

The Singles Day festival, initially established as a 24-hour online shopping event on November 11th annually in China, has evolved into a celebration spanning several weeks. Aptly named after the date's numerical pattern, this festival now encompasses extensive promotions across the nation's leading e-commerce platforms and physical retail outlets.

Anticipated sales growth for the festival, regarded as an indicator of consumer confidence, was modest this year in light of the ongoing economic recovery challenges.

It’s going to be a tough Golden Quarter for many UK fashion retailers, according to the findings a new survey. Two-thirds of them say the ‘double-whammy’ of spiralling interest rates and inflation will hit peak trading in the run-up to Christmas.

According to the survey, inflation emerges as a significant concern, as 59% of retailers indicate that they are reducing profit margins instead of fully transferring the increased costs to customers. Additionally, 61% express apprehension about potential market share loss if they were to pass on the full burden of rising prices.
